Caring for your Artwork

Framing

I recommend taking your painting to a professional framer. You may prefer to do this yourself so that you can choose a frame which suits the decor and style of your home. Alternatively, I can arrange framing on your behalf once the painting is complete, and I use The Frame Shop Geelong. Choose acid-free and archival quality materials for framing.

If you have purchased a watercolour painting on paper, this is typically framed behind glass. Consider purchasing a frame with conservation UV glass which will help protect the artwork from damage by sunlight.

If you have purchased a watercolour painting on aquabord, this does not need to be framed behind glass as it is sealed with an archival quality UV protectant spray. Aquabord paintings can be framed in floating frames.

Cleaning

Dust your painting regularly with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use water or cleaning products.

Storage

If you need to store your painting, do so in a cool, dry place with stable temperature and humidity. If storing with multiple pieces, use acid-free tissue to prevent damage. Do not lean or stack items onto your painting, whether framed or unframed. Do not store your painting in plastic for extended periods.

Display

It is recommended to hang your painting out of direct sunlight to protect the integrity of the paint and prevent fading. Avoid positions in your home which are subject to extreme changes in temperature, humidity, moisture, and smoke. Avoid hanging your painting near fireplaces, vents, or other sources of heat.

Handling

Always handle artworks with clean, dry hands and avoid touching the surface of the painting to prevent oil and dirt transfer.

Hold a framed painting using the string at the back or the sides of the frame.

Hand-Painted Pots

Take care when handling, storing and cleaning your pot. While it is sealed with a protective varnish which is suitable for indoor or outdoor conditions, it is recommended to keep your pot indoors or in a sheltered position outdoors.

Clean your pot with a damp cloth, but do not submerge it in water or use cleaning products.

It is recommended that you keep the plant within its plastic pot and place this inside your hand-painted pot to keep it in good condition.
